All this social media stuff is really pretty new for me. In fact, it’s been down right addictive! First it started with Facebook. Then a Facebook Fan Page. Before long I was checking out Twitter, man is that a great place to get a lot of great info quickly. Now I am blogging. Can you relate to this?
One of the cool things about all this social networking is finding and connecting with new people. Not just in your backyard but all over the world. It amazing where some of the new people I’ve connected with are from and without social networking they’d never be in my life.
Recently, I connected with someone in Australia. Her name is Michaele Harrington. She’s got a great online presence and a cool sense of humor. You can learn more about her at her site, http://www.michaele-harrington.com/
Here’s the video she sent. Take a minute to watch it. It’s only a minute and half.
Needless to say…I was rolling on the floor laughing my you know what off. You’ve Got To Be Kidding!!
Granted, the people in the video are in outstanding physical condition and they look fabulous. But hey, I’m in my mid 50′s and there’s no way I’m doing anything that crazy. I’d like to see my next birthday!
The whole idea is to get out there and get moving. Become more active. In doing this there’s a good chance you’ll burn more calories than you take in. This is one of the best ways for most of us to lose weight, become more fit and to look and feel better.
There are a ton of ways to do this. Just let your imagination go. I’ll even help you get started with some ideas. Walk your dog, jog with your child in the stroller, ride a bike, go dancing, do yard work go for a hike, go skiing. Hit the gym, lift some weights, take a class like Body Sculpting, Yoga, Kick Boxing, and yes Spin, my personal favorite for when I can’t get on the bike.
There are plenty of ways to get a variety of exercise. Exercise within your limits. I’m a firm believer in being active and getting exercise at least 30 minutes a day 5-6 days a week. You’ll improve your life. You’ll look better. You’ll feel better. You’ll even sleep better. And here’s the good news…you don’t have to kill yourself doing it!
To your next birthday! Happy Birthday and good health!
Before I go…I’d like to ask you to tell me your story. Do you have an interesting story to share about with someone you’ve met through social media and that you’ve never personally met yet.
What’s your opinion of the Cross Fit style of exercise? Is it for you? How do you like to get your exercise? If I was in my 20′s I might look into this, how about you?
I’d appreciate hearing from you. You can leave your comments below. If you enjoyed this post please share it by Re Tweeting it.
Until next time…Live Your Best Life!

Hey Don, great post!
If you haven’t had a chance to read Seth Godin’s book “Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us” yet, you totally need to pick up a copy (or audiobook). The CrossFit system is actually discussed by Seth in there an a great example of how one person built a tribe around a mission. The competitive, self-supporting, everyone help everyone while still competing model is rampant in good Tribe systems and Crossfit sure is one!
Consistent physical workouts actually set the stage for success in other areas of life. They don’t have to be Crossfit intense, but they still should push us. They teach us dedication, self-motivation, persistence, working through pain, and the joy of a hard fought for victory.
Keep on Rockin!

Thanks Kimberley, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the heads up on Seth Godin’s book. I’m familiar with it but was not aware that he talked about Cross Fit in it. I’ll have to pick up a copy of it and check it out. After all, it’s becoming all about the tribe.
I’d have to agree with your observations. Working out on a consistent basis certainly does prepare us in more ways than one for the things we encounter in life. It can teach us strength and stamina during challenging times. It can build confidence and determination to see things through. And, no matter what, we still become better. That’s what it’s all about. Getting better everyday so you can be more, do more, and have more.

Okay, honey! I AM going back to the gym!
Having the flu slows one down a bit, but my coughing has subsided, so I think I am ready for the elliptical.

Hi Don,
I think you owe it to yourself and your readers to commit to a little more research before commenting on anything especially if commenting in the negative.
CrossFit is not purely about elite athletes being “CRAZY”. I own a CrossFit gym and we attend to the needs of people of all walks of life (many older than you). Intensity is only one aspect of training but is introduced well after orthopaedic issues are attended too and correct biomechanics are learned.
To insinuate that any fitness system is crazy (be it CrossFit or any other) without an adequate understanding is both ignorant and misleading.
Congratulations on your blog and best wishes for success.
Regards, Adam Stanecki.

Adam,
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and comment. When I first saw the video that was shared I was blown away by the level of fitness those in the video display. I think they are incredibly healthy and dedicated to this form of training. I respect that and I respect all forms of training. We need to be a healthier society and how we accomplish that is different for everyone. My intent was not to insinuate that CrossFit is a Crazy system just for elite athletes.
My intent with this post was to share a story that to me was funny at the time. As I mentioned I was exchanging conversations with someone on a social media site. The conversation was playful and fun before the video was shared with me. When the video was shared I busted out laughing. Under any other circumstance it would not have had the same affect on me but the build up of the exchange in conversation made it funny.
I’m sure that your desire is to provide outstanding service and training for your clients. You probably do that very well as most people take what they do seriously. If we can get people up and about and doing more exercise then we’ve made progress.
Keep up the good work.

Don,
I was blown away at the intense levels of dedication these athletes have. They are obviously very fit to even entertain a contest or workout session like this.
The other thing I really admire about this is the level of passion and focus these athletes have. This is not unlike any other profession.
Even as marketers we need to have focus and dedication to our craft. I can already see these levels increasing on your social media site. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Ken,
It takes time to get the momentum going for almost any effort you are working on. Once the ball gets rolling and the mental conditioning takes over the task at hand becomes so much easier.
I know once we all get the foundation down and continue to build on it, it will just take off. A solid foundation is the building block for success in fitness, weight loss, and also social media…really, anything we are looking to improve upon.

What a crazy video Don, thanks for sharing it! Those people are definitely excercising at a whole new level! I am probably more at your level. I love a good spin class. It is great though how fast we can start to expand our lives through the people we meet on the internet.

I give credit to people who have that commitment and dedication. It is inspiring…or tiring…depending on your point of view.

We should thank you for maintaining such a wonderful website. this website is not only knowledgeable but also very inventive too. There normally are only few experts who can write technical content that creatively. All of us are on the lookout for knowledge on a subject like this. I searched through dozens of websites to acquire information regarding this.I will check back often !!

Wow! CrossFit is seriously intense…and they have the bodies to show it. Enjoyed your post Don. This group is a great example of tribes and the power of leaders within those tribes.
