I just have to share with you the wonderful experience I had this past Saturday. I had the opportunity to attend The Inaugural, Mentor Mama’s Networking Mixer. In case you’re wondering…”who is the Mentor Mama?” …it’s none other than Nancy Burke Barr.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mentor Mama earlier this year at another “live” event here in San Diego sponsored by The Empowered Tribe. She is truly a wonderful, warm, caring person that has it in her heart to help others.
To hear Mentor Mama tell it the idea for this event came from her experience in San Diego and a few other “live” events as well. The opportunity to meet and mingle face to face with other key players online is so valuable. In fact, she received so much value from these “live” events that she decided to host her own.
I don’t know about you but I’ve been to my fair share of Chamber Mixers. I’ve found some to be beneficial and others to be nothing more that a “pitch fest”. If you’re doing it right you make a couple of good connections. They might lead to business, they might not. Hardly ever is a great relationship formed where both parties come out in a win/win situation.
This is where Mentor Mama shone. She was brilliant in organizing an event that catered to a specific group of people…online marketers. This insured that everyone that attended had a common interest with all the others.
Many of us already knew each other from being connected online. Some of us made new connections that day. The beauty though, came in the form of face to face interaction. To sit and have a conversation with someone and really learn what their passionate about is incredible.
I can honestly say that I had a fair idea of what some of the people were all about. After spending a few hours together…what I learned…is what everyone is really about.
Face it, how many of you are really connecting with all your friends and followers? How well do you know them? Are you taking the time to get to know them and learn about them?
It’s an ongoing process and eventually we do learn a little bit about them…that is if we’re reaching out and making an effort to get to know each of them.
The beauty of attending Mentor Mama’s Networking Mixer is that it took those casual on the surface relationships and made them deeper. Deeper in understanding. Deeper in knowing. And this, my friends, is where great things are born.
This is where bonds are made and the future is built. The saying goes that people do business with people they know, like and trust. I’m thinking that there were some future business relationships born this day. Only time will tell.
So, here’s a shout out to The Mentor Mama…Thanks for creating the place where relationships are made and deepened. A place for learning and understanding to happen. A place for business to be born. I know the next one will be bigger and better.
Please leave me your comments about how “live” events and networking with your peers has impacted you and your business. Feel free to share this so that others may learn of the benefits and prosper.
Until next time, go out and Live Your Best Life!

Hey Don: I second your assessment of Mentor Mama’s event. It was awesome. Just need to get to everyone and chat. Love your quick video and post.

Hey Don,
Good to chat with you on Saturday and learn a little bit more about what you are doing and your goals and dreams.
Nancy did a superb job of warning us how to stay within the law. She brought up some issues I had never considered, like using copies of pictures in an article without properly quoting the source.
Look forward to seeing you again in October, if not before!

Darlene,
It’s so funny, we live so close to each other but never seem to make the time to get together. It took a Great lady in Mentor Mama to put this event together and for us to meet in person. It’s great talking on Skype but face to face is so much better. It was a pleasure to get to know you better.

It was absolutely fantastic hanging out with you again Don! Looking forward to lunch!

Linda,
If you ever venture outside of Alaska you’ll have to join us. Connecting with people you’ve met online in person is very exciting and rewarding.
Thanks for stopping by.

Hi Don

I love your message and totally agree with you. I love live events. While I do not miss the commute in going to an office I do miss the live interaction with people. I really need it as I am very much a people person.
The event you attended sounds awesome. Hmm now Orange County for me is a 14 hour flight and a drive from LA Airport – oh and a drive to Brisbane airport first of 2 hours. Maybe there is something like it in Australia
I love your video.

Thanks Sue,
You could actually fly into John Wayne Airport and then the drive would only be about 20-30 minutes LOL!
Hmm, maybe you could follow the lead of Mentor Mama and start one Down Under. I’m sure it would be a grand event.

Hi Don
Sounds like a great event. I look forward to attending Sues downunder when she gets it going. I do miss face to face interaction of like minded people.

Belinda,
Hey if we all talk it up maybe Sue will take the bull by the horns and put on together for you. I know that there are enough Aussies hanging out online that you guys could connect with.

Don, I may have to move to the other coast. Seems like everyone is there! It must be such an incredible experience at Mentor Mama’s Mixer!
Also, thank you for sharing the information you have learned.
Regards,
Donna

Don, I agree. The rubber meets the road when you connect face to face. One of my posts this week covered the importance of taking our online relationships offline.
You are such a beautiful person and I look forward to meeting you in person as well.
Live events ROCK!

Thank you Faith for your kind words. I’ve seen the things you’ve been up to this past week and it looks like you were out there connecting in person as well. This just takes a relationship so much farther when you can take them offline.
I look forward to the day that we can sit down in person and get to know each too.

Sounds like it was a great event Don….and it serves as a gentle reminder that there really is no substitute for face to face contact. If Sue gets an Aussie meeting going, I’ll be there…

Don, I couldn’t agree more! While I’ve loved the connections I’ve made here online, I much prefer the depth of face to face connections. Not to mention the fun that is had! From the looks and sounds of it, you guys did that quite well!
Mentor Mama rocks, and I can’t wait until the mixer she’s planning for up in the Bay Area! Interested in a longer road trip up the coast?

Beth,
If Mentor Mama has an event in your neck of the woods I’m sure it will be a huge success. As far as another road trip goes I guess we’ll have to see when it is. Can’t be driving in the snow ya know

Don – I am glad you had such a great time. I knew it would be an awesome event and wish I had been right there with you all. Meeting people face to face brings networking and building relationships to a whole new level. Thanks for sharing this wonderful experience with us.

Glyna,
I know, it’s clear across the country for you and of course had you made it you would’ve loved it. It’s one thing to connect online, connecting on Skype takes it even a littler deeper but in person well that just puts a bow on it.
