With the return of Tribe Tuesday beginning today I was inspired to write today’s post from an excerpt of The Tribal Beat. Ken Pickard touched on this topic as a tip for the week but I want to expand on it some more.
Most people know that commenting to people’s status updates on Facebook is a good way to engage others…particularly the person that posted the status update.
You might even know that you can create and exchange dialogue with others on Twitter too. While this can be a bit more challenging due to speed of the Twitter stream it is still fun and effective when commenting.
The Empowered Tribe community is growing. We have some new members that are really going to be great contributors. For some of them though, this will be their first experience with a Tribe Tuesday. So I wanted to touch on this important topic.
The idea behind Tribe Tuesday is to have people within the community meet on a weekly basis to get to know each other, learn from each other, and bring new readers to their blog via syndication.
Your blog is your central hub. Your showcase…your masterpiece. All your social site activity revolves out from there. Your goal is to have people return to your blog on a consistent basis.
One of the best ways to achieve this is by commenting after you’ve read the blog post.
The important thing to remember here is to leave a comment that adds to the value of the persons blog post. Your goal is to add a comment that reflects your thoughts, your experience or your feeling on the topic of the post. And it should be positive in nature. Definitely more than just a “great post, Thanks.”
This one little step is so vital in building a relationship between you and the blog author. It creates dialogue. It shows social proof to other people visiting the site. And it validates the author as well as creating a viral effect.
Not only that, but if the Comment Luv plugin is installed it gives you great back linking and shows other visitors your most recent blog post as a reward for commenting. It’s not uncommon for the blog author to visit and comment back on the blog of one of their visitors. It’s also not unusual for other visitors to visit your blog too if your title catches their eye.
There’s another plugin that you might want to consider installing and that is WP Thread Comment. It allows for the replies of the author to be nested with the original reply. This makes your blog look more conversational and allows the author to reply directly to the person leaving the comment. And again, it’s helping to build the relationship.
Another important point is to have an Avatar…one that matches with your personal brand. If you don’t have an Avatar you can get one here.
Actively leaving comments on people’s blogs is a key foundation that our community is built on. There are other communities that profess this too and then there are others that say they do but really don’t.
I know this from people I talk with. Some communities are built on how many points you can attain simply by syndicating. They’ve said their blog looks like it has had many readers by their bookmarking stats but in looking at it…well it looks like no one has visited because no one left any comments. And, they have no idea who the visitors have been. As a result…no progress in building a relationship.
Most of us are learning to be attraction marketers. Attraction Marketing is founded on building meaningful relationships. To build meaningful relationships you have to engage others and one of the most effective ways is to leave valuable comments on the blogs you visit. Believe me, the author of the blog will notice and you will be rewarded…in more ways than you can imagine.
I hope you found this to be informative and helpful. I’d love to hear your comments about how you see commenting on others blogs and the result you have experienced from it.
As always, please share this with your friends and followers on Facebook and Twitter.
Until next time, go out and Live Your Best Life!

Tribe Tuesday has been a real value to me in building relationships. I have met some of the neatest people here. Thank you for sharing this.

Tribe Tuesday’s are going to be great. Our group already gives very good support to one another. Tribe Tuesday’s will be a good re-enforcement of that spirit!

Don,
You teach by example, my friend. I always look forward to your comments. They not only add value, they are playful and fun! You should write an ebook on this one.
It has been my experience that meaningful relationships have been built through comments on a blog, Facebook or Twitter. We are lucky to have the entire world at our fingertips to connect with:)

We do have the world t our finger tips and it sure is fun connecting with others. It’s been fun getting to know you too.

Don thank you as I never quite understood tribe Tuesday! I like Darlene value your comments. You always leave thoughtful feedback. I also admire the wording you use when you post for someone on Facebook as it always edifies the author.
You set a great example.
Thank you

Thank you Sue, I appreciate that. I’m glad you have a better understanding of Tribe Tuesday. Just a bigger version of Wednesday in Alaska.

Don,
You touched on a key issue with blogs. Without comments, it looks like no one has visited your site. Another top concern for me is the if the writer replies back. Interaction between the two builds relationships.
Glad Tribe Tuesdays are back!

Linda,
It’s just the tip of the iceberg. As the process grows, as the relationships grow your blog and business grow. It’s only going to get better.

You’ve contributed a really great post that all new bloggers should read. Having your blog ready for syndication and then visiting other blogs and leaving valuable comments are both so important if you are going to effectively build relationships online.
Thanks so much, Don!

Hi Don
I love the interaction that happens by commenting on a blog. Some really insightful conversations have been had by this process and they are there to go back to and add more if you want. A blog is not a blog with out them. I get what tribe tuesday is also now when you compare to Wed in alaska. Thanks. Belinda

I’m glad you now know what Tribe Tuesday is all bout. Maybe you should come join us?

Don, you have summed up the subject of building relationships with comments beautifully. I have met some great people by leaving comments on their blog posts and then connecting on social media sites. I love commentluv, because it gives me the opportunity to check out people who have visited my site and reciprocate.
And your mention of Tibe Tuesday is very timely as I was chatting with Ken Pickard only the other day about possibly joining!

Hi Don,
It is so critical to leave a thoughtful comment. The author works very hard to create the post for YOU and it is the least we can do as tribe members, especially.
When a tribe member takes the time to really notice what I’ve written and gives me an encouraging or uplifting comment, I feel a connection right away. I automatically feel more open to that person. It is just natural and the relationship flows from there.
Don, this is a really great summary of what tribing is all about and I think that I’ll forward the link to our newest tribe member for this week! I appreciate you.

Thanks for the info. I love reading and responding to comments. It can lead to some great connections and wonderful friendships, not to mention great tips and learning. I use Comment Luv but not WP Thread Comment(will check it out). I often see a great titles via Comment Luv and checkout other blogs. Looking forward to growing my relationships to grow my blog and business.

Don,
Social media was made for people like you. You always give great value. i love the connection you made with the community on this post. Leaving good comments serves several purposes as you have so eloquently pointed out.
You want to make sure you give value back to the author by mentioning what part of their post you like. then you want to leave your mark as a thoughtful knowledgeable commentator.
Talk about a win win scenario. And here you are demonstrating it in spades! Thanks for always serving up great value.
