It was just a few short months ago that I started my blog and ventured out into the online world. At the time it was a little scary. I really had no idea how to create a blog, what I would write about and how would I ever get people to read my posts. I really wondered…did I know what I was doing and worse yet…would I have any success with it?
It wasn’t long before I found myself involved with a group of people…a tribe. I was part of the first Tribe Intensive Mastery course. Most of us were new to blogging and online marketing. All of us had one skill or another but not one of us had all the skills we were looking for. After all, we were the students. We came to learn and to grow.
In doing some reflection on my short journey here I have really noticed one key thing that has stood out. Our initial community was based on a very simple principle…a universal law. That my friends, is the Law of Reciprocation.
Simply put, the best way to receive something is to give something. It’s a founding principle that is at the center of virtually every religious, moral, and ethical system in the world. And, it is at the center of our tribal community.
This one component is so key to so many things in life. Yet, so many people miss it. Too many people want to get before they give. Sadly, missing this one thing can keep people from fulfilling their potential.
When you create something of value and give it to someone that can benefit from it the reward that comes back to you will be multiplied many times over. It will show up in various ways in your life, but most certainly, it will show up. It may come back to you in the form of satisfaction, pride, fulfillment, friendship, energy and yes, even money!
There’s a new book out by the title of Go Givers Sell More by Bob Burg and John David Mann …check your Twitter stream….somebody’s going to be talking about it. I haven’t read it yet but I know people that are recommending it and so it’s on my list of books to read. I’m guessing the content is full of the Law of Reciprocation. Again, I can’t say for sure since I haven’t read it yet.
Here’s a real easy example of this Law that I would encourage all of you to do. Make it a point that in the next 24 hours you pay a compliment to 2 people you come in contact with. Preferable someone you see face to face. Watch what happens to them after you pay them a compliment. Notice how you feel afterwords. Do this regularly and you will be amazed and what comes back to you.
So, our little tribal community has grown. We have many new members as a result of the Tribe Intensive Mastery Course 2.0. Many of the new members are in the same boat that those of us in the first course were in. The one that goes up a certain creek without a paddle!
As I said, the foundation of our tribe community is based on the Law of Reciprocation. The only way that all of us in the first class got to where we are today is because we had something of value that we gave freely away and shared. We shared our strength and experience with someone that could use it and in return we received something of value from someone else that moved us forward. There was this continuous flow of giving. The more we gave the more we advanced and moved forward. There are so many ways that we give and share in our community. The Law of Reciprocation is flowing freely and very abundant.
Our leadership team has brought this law, this philosophy to our community. It began with them. It continued with the class of Tribe Mastery 1.0 and now it is up the the new members of our tribe, the Tribe Intensive Mastery 2.0 students to carry this forward. We are all becoming leaders and what we are learning and practicing among ourselves within our tribe community is the Law of Reciprocation. Mastering this law is going to take all of us far.
Go out and Give value to someone, Give it freely. Don’t expect anything in return. You will get your reward, it’s a given. Offer value, enrich someone’s life, pay them a compliment, make their day. Whenever you do this, no matter what, you will feel better. You’ll have more energy, you’ll make more friends, the world will be a better place.
The bottom line is this; you have the power to inspire others, and in return, they will inspire you, they will support you.
Go out and Live Your Best Life!
Don
PS. I’d love to hear your thoughts and comments. Please leave them below. If you found value in this post then I’d really appreciate it you’d share it with others on Facebook and on Twitter.

I think community has always required a giving attitude but the question was how to convey that in a modern world where technology has linked the world. I am seeing in the ever expanding community of writers that there is a common thread – they care.
Thanks for your post

Leslie,
I couldn’t agree with you more. Technology brings all of us much closer together. Yet, it can make it more difficult to connect with each other. Showing that you really care bridges that gap.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Whatever it is you want…go out and give it authentically and you will get it tenfold!

Beth,
Isn’t it fun to watch a persons facial expression completely change just by a thoughtful compliment? Not only that, they always seem to be much nicer too. Go figure

Kimberly,
Your point is right in line with who you are. You are one of the greatest Go Givers I have had the pleasure of getting to know recently. Every time I connect with you I come away with something of value.
Thanks for sharing your kind thoughts.

Don,
I love Bob’s book The Go-Giver. These principles are so simple, yet so powerful. The words thank you have such an impact on a person’s life, both the giver and the receiver.
Thanks for sharing,
